Restaurants

You will find Vienna to be an ideal place to indulge in national and international gastronomic experiences. Traditional Viennese cuisine includesWiener Schnitzel (fried veal escalope) or Tafelspitz (very lean boiled beef, served with grated horseradish) together with a cold beer. Vienna has also a long tradition of cakes and desserts. These include Apfelstrudel (hot apple strudel), Palatschinken (sweet pancakes) and Knödel (dumplings) often filled with fruit. The Sachertorte – a chocolate cake – is world-famous.

Shopping

For fashion trendsetters, the inner city is the right place. The Kärntnerstraße, Graben and Kohlmarkt are considered the luxury shopping streets. Young shoppers go to the Mariahilferstraße and to the Neubau Quarter, where many small shops are waiting to be discovered. The extraordinary Museum Quarter accommodates shops mostly run by young artists. Typical Viennese souvenirs include porcelain and chocolate. Shops are generally open Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 18.00 (some shops until 20.00) and on Saturday from 8.00 to 12.00 (17.00 in most shopping areas).
Shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays, even though food stores at major railway stations have longer opening hours.

Speakers’ Service Centre (SSC)

There will be a centrally located speakers’ service centre (SSC) with a connection to all the lecture halls. All speakers are asked to turn in their PowerPoint presentations at least 1 hour before their lecture at the SSC.

Smoking Policy

There is a strict no-smoking policy in the entire Austria Center Vienna.
