Restaurants
Vienna offers plenty of fine restaurants, especially in the Inner City. It boasts the only major culinary tradition to be named after a city – Viennese cuisine. Dining in Vienna is almost instantly connected with the famous “Wiener Schnitzel”, “Tafelspitz” and “Kaiserschmarren”, but there is a range from traditional cuisine to almost every gastronomic delight from all over the world. Vienna has also a long tradition of coffee houses (the original “Sachertorte” is world famous) and wine taverns.
In the Austria Center Vienna there is a self-service restaurant located on the ground floor, yellow level (OE). Several small restaurants can be found in the vicinity of the conference venue (approx. 5 minutes by underground).
Shopping in Vienna
The trendiest shopping mile in Vienna is the “Mariahilfer Strasse” between the city centre and the Westbahnhof, where a large variety of shops can be discovered. Around “Kärnter Strasse”, “Graben” and Kohlmarkt” there are various fashion boutiques.
Shops are generally open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00 (some shops until 20:00) and on Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00 (17:00 in most shopping areas). Shops are closed on Sundays, even though food stores at major railway stations are open later in the evening.
Speakers’ Service Centre (SSC)
There will be a centrally located Speakers’ Service Centre connected to all lecture rooms. All speakers will be asked to hand in their PowerPoint presentations prior to their lecture at the SSC. Please refer to "Instructions for Speakers and Authors" for more information.
Tipping
It is common to offer a tip of around 10% – 15% to taxi drivers and at restaurants.
Transport in Vienna
The city has a well-developed public transportation network. Buses, trains, trams and underground lines ensure a quick and convenient transfer across the city. Please refer to “Travelling to the Austria Center Vienna” (pages 201/202) for more details.
Venue
The EBMT 2010 meeting will take place at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV). The venue is located in the modern eastern part of the city, between the tower blocks of the Donau City and the United Nations Vienna Headquarters. The ACV is approx. 10 minutes from the city centre by the underground.
