An attractive choice of guided tours has been prepared for all delegates and accompanying persons. Below you will find the respective schedule and short descriptions. Please note that during all tours you will be accompanied by knowledgeable, English-speaking guides. Tour prices include transfer by deluxe coach. The organizer reserves the right to cancel the tour in case of less than 25 registered persons. Full refunds will be made if an activity is cancelled due to lack of participants. Tour 1: Classical Vienna

Date/Time: Sunday, 11 April, 9.00

This tour will give you an overall impression of Vienna’s most significant historical sights. Along the Ringstrasse, we will show you numerous buildings, such as the State Opera, the two Museums, Parliament and City Hall. This tour’s highlight will be a visit to the showrooms of Schönbrunn Palace, which was once the Habsburg family's summer residence and the home of Empress Maria Theresia. On the way back, we will pass Belvedere Palace, Prince Eugen's summer residence.

Tour 2: Secrets of St. Stephen’s Cathedral

Of course, you have heard about St. Stephen’s Cathedral as one of Vienna’s landmarks. We are sure that you know a lot of historical facts about the cathedral and the surrounding square. But did you know that some of the grand battles of the 1848 revolution took place on this square and that the bullet holes are still there? Have you discovered the mystical numbers on the roof of the cathedral, or do you know which legends are based on true stories? Many important and famous people are buried within the cathedral, but what about the countless and nameless dead in the crypt deep below your feet? Follow us on a journey through the secrets of St. Stephen’s and your questions will be answered.

Tour 3: Magnificent Klosterneuburg

Klosterneuburg Monastery’s origins date back to Margrave Leopold III, who in 1113 relocated his residence to Klosterneuburg. For nearly 900 years, the Augustinian canons of the Klosterneuburg Monastery have performed pastoral, economic, social and cultural functions. Numerous artistic treasures and an impressive architectural heritage can be viewed via the thematic tours through the monastery.
At an age of roughly 900 years, Klosterneuburg Monastery Winery is not only one of the oldest wine estates in Austria, but also one of the largest with its 108 hectares of cultivated land. We invite you to more than a guided tour through the magnificent abbey—we also intend to take you down into the ancient wine cellar to a guided wine tasting.

Tour 4: Temple of Art – Kunsthistorisches Museum

The collections of the Kunsthistorisches Museum are amongst the most important and spectacular in the world. The 16th century art and treasure chambers of Archduke Ferdinand and of Emperor Rudolph II, together with the baroque collections of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm, form the nucleus of the museum’s magnificent collections. The taste and artistic preferences of these and other connoisseurs of the Imperial Family are still discernible today, thus conveying a sense of the Imperial glory of the art-loving Habsburg dynasty. The museum’s collections range from Ancient Egyptian and Greek to Roman Antiquities, from the Collections of Medieval Art to the splendid Renaissance and Baroque collections.

Tour 5: History of Medicine in Vienna

Our tour guide will provide a great overview of Vienna’s remarkable history as a city of medical pioneers. Follow us through the medical history of Vienna and visit with us places like Josephinum, Narrenturm and the Sigmund Freud collection. In 1784, Austrian Emperor Joseph II founded the basis of today’s Viennese General Hospital – a hospital intended to be the most progressivemedical centre of its time. In 1867, Theodor Billroth became head of the 2nd Surgical Clinic at the General Hospital in Vienna. In 1881, he performed the first successful resection of a pyloric cancer in a human being: this stomach resection in its two variants marked the beginning of abdominal surgery. As the most gifted surgeon of the latter part of the 19th century, Billroth was teacher and model for a vast number of students who subsequently attained worldwide acclaim.
