Ballet Performance “The Swan Lake”

Thursday, 20 October 2011
19.30

On Thursday evening the Dutch National Ballet is presenting “The Swan Lake” at the Amsterdam Music Theatre.
The former artistic director of the Dutch National Ballet, Rudi van Dantzig, draws his chief inspiration from Tchaikovsky for his arrangement of this “ballet of ballets” about love and deception. Van Dantzig has kept to the traditional movements of the “standard version” by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov dating from 1895, but has otherwise opted for a less superficial, more human interpretation. His production is subsequently outstanding for its emotional expressive power. Toer van Schayk’s imposing decors and costumes could well have been derived from the “golden” paintings of the seventeenth-century Dutch Masters. In the half century since its inception, the company has not only presented successful foreign versions of classical-romantic ballets, but has also brought its own interpretations to the stage. Adopting a completely individual viewpoint and often imbued with a typical “Dutch flavour”, these productions have made a significant contribution to Dutch cultural heritage

Tickets for this ballet have to be ordered online directly on the homepage of the Amsterdam Music Theatre (www.het-muziektheater.nl/swanlake/). Participants who would like to get information on the ballet can also contact the “Tours” desk on-site next to the Secretariat.

Price: From € 19.50 to € 74.50
Address: Waterlooplein 22, 1011 PG Amsterdam
