Welcome Address

Dear Colleagues,

I have the great honour to invite you to the island of Rhodes for the 17th ENS meeting in 2007. This will be the second time within the last decade that our island has hosted an ENS meeting.

The history of Rhodes originated in the mists of mythology, according to which, Zeus decided to apportion the islands of Greece to the other gods. The Sun god Helios selected Rhodes, and named the island after the daughter of the goddess Aphrodite, the nymph Rhode, with whom he was in love.

Rhodes is the home of the “Colossus”, one of the seven wonders of the world. St. Paul landed here, in Lindos, and the crusading knights of Saint John left behind the magnificent mediaeval city of Rhodes. Daily air and sea communications with Athens and other European and Mediterranean cities make the island easily accessible.

Rhodes is an island of tradition, history, light and fine emerald waters, a centre of culture and a cosmopolitan lifestyle. All these features have contributed to making it an attractive choice for several European and international scientific meetings to date.

The scientific and cultural programmes of the 17th ENS meeting are scheduled to be outstanding, and we may therefore expect that, with your participation, the forthcoming ENS meeting in Rhodes will be a success and a unique opportunity to share advances in several topics in Neurology.

We look forward to welcoming you to Rhodes.

Prof I. Milonas
Chairperson of the 17th ENS Meeting
