Young Doctors Visit

The European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (EAYNT) is delighted to announce the Young Neurologist Visit to the Hospital Santa Maria in Lisbon during the 21st meeting of the ENS.

The tour will take place on Saturday, 28 May 2011 upon the kind invitation of the chairperson of the 21st ENS Meeting, Professor Dr. Jose Ferro. The purpose of this visit is to provide participants with an intimate view of behind the scenes of one of the leading neurological departments in Portugal, and also into the country’s health care system. Historical figures of Portuguese Neurology will be discussed, including Egas Moniz (1874 – 1955), who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1949 for developing pre-frontal leucotomy, but who is much better known for his descriptions of the angiographic aspects of cerebral tumours, aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations. Readers are referred to the “Pioneers in Neurology” article by J. Ferro in J Neurol (2003) 250:376-377 for further details.

Thereafter a dinner with a typical local flair will be scheduled for our colleagues, in order to gain insights into local traditions, and to renew old and form new friendships. The EAYNT Hospital Visit enjoys great popularity among junior colleagues, and has become an integral part of ENS Meetings.

Participation is free, but space is limited, therefore early registration is recommended. Exact details of the visit and contacts for registration will be announced in January 2011 on the EAYNT homepage (www.eaynt.org).
