3 How to reach Santander
Santander is the capital of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, located in northern Spain, at the Cantabric sea.

The airport of Parayas (+34 942 202 100; www.aena.es) is located outside Santander (5 km from the center of the city), next to the Commercial Center Valle Real. Iberia provides direct flights from Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Seville, and Valencia. Low-cost direct flights operated by Ryan Air are also available from London, Frankfort and Rome. A bus service to the city centre and taxis (fare approximately EUR 10) are available at the airport.

Attendants to the ESCMID School may also consider flying to Bilbao (about 100 km from Santander by the A-8 highway) as more and cheaper flights reach this city from multiple locations in Europe. Take the bus from the airport to the bus terminal in Bilbao (Termibus) where buses to Santander are available (75 - 90-min trip).
